Workshops

Workshop 1
"Recent advances in the use of virtual reality (VR) in Drug Design"

Instructor:
Dr. Amgad Albohy

Date and Time:
Saturday (12/10/2024) From 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Description:

Virtual reality (VR) techniques are gaining more attention in all fields of science. The use of VR in drug design is very important and has a great impact in both education and research. In this workshop we will introduce the attendees to some applications of VR in the field of drug design using Meta Oculus Quest 2 device and Nanome Software. In addition to applications in medicinal chemistry and drug design, we will discuss other potential applications for VR in all fields of pharmacy. This workshop is essential for all researchers, educators as well as learners in the field of pharmaceutical sciences to keep up with the most recent advances in the field.

Workshop 2
"Nanotechnology and advanced drug delivery"

Instructor:
Prof. Dr. Mona Arafa

Date and Time:
Saturday (12/10/2024) From 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Description:

This workshop aims to equip participants with essential knowledge on the enabling technologies and key aspects of applying nanotechnology in the pharmaceutical field. It will cover general aspects of nanoscience, nanotechnology, and nanophysics, and delve into the study of naturally occurring nanomaterials, as well as metallic and polymeric-based nanoparticles. Advanced drug delivery systems will be discussed in detail. Additionally, a hands-on component will be included, allowing participants to prepare nanoparticles and dosage forms, while exploring the unique features of various naturally occurring nanomaterials.

Workshop 3
"Nutrigenetics, Nutrigenomics and Personalized nutrition"

Instructor:
Prof. Dr. Abdullah Gibriel

Date and Time:
Saturday (12/10/2024) From 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Description:

Every individual has his own genetic signature that determines body response to nutrients and food. Then why shall we take same nutrition and diet if we do not have identical genetic makeup?

The ‘One-size-fits-all’ nutritional approach is getting out-dated and has recently been replaced by personalised gene-based nutritional plans.

It's time to tailor nutrition based on every individual’s genetic makeup to promote health and prevent diseases.

This course introduces the concept of genetic variant based dietary interventions, gene-diet interaction at multiple levels and the role of nutrient on health via genomic, epigenomic and metagenomic mechanisms. This cutting-edge course delves into the intricate relationship between our genes and nutrition, providing a comprehensive understanding of how genetic variations influence dietary needs and how nutrients can affect gene expression.

This workshop is designed for undergraduate and post-graduate students, healthcare professionals, health coaches and nutrition scientists from academia, agencies and industry. The course provides the fundamental concepts of nutrigenetics, nutrigenomics and personalized nutrition to have hands on experience for future directions along with exploring the latest research and technological advancements.
